We stock and install Viking-compatible welding and fabrication parts across Dallas, and most weld repairs run $180 – $475 installed depending on the break and the material thickness. The typical turnaround is 1 – 2 business days once we’ve seen the part, because we match the original metal spec before any torch gets lit. You’ll usually discover this failure the hard way: a hinge ear snaps, a gate frame cracks at a weld joint, or the whole operator mount starts sagging because the base plate finally gave out.
That’s the thing about fabricated steel in North Texas. The heat cycling between July sun and January freezes puts stress on every welded joint, and the first weld to fail is rarely the one you were watching. Dean Prescott has re-welded enough gate frames near White Rock Lake to know that by the time a crack is visible from the driveway, it’s been growing for months.
Which Viking Models This Applies To
This covers Viking gate frames, hinge plates, operator mounting brackets, and custom fabricated steel components on most residential Viking swing and slide gate systems installed in the Dallas area over the last 15 years or so. The older Viking F-1 and G-5 series frames were built with 2-inch square steel tubing at 11-gauge wall thickness, while newer Viking X-series and T-21 units moved to slightly thinner 14-gauge on some non-load-bearing cross members. That matters when a repair calls for welding in a patch or reinforcement plate, because you can’t just grab whatever steel is on the truck and call it good.
To identify what you have, look for the model plate on the operator arm or the control box. If the plate is gone, measure the tubing: 2×2 inch is standard across most Viking residential gates, but the wall thickness tells us which spec we’re matching. On the OEM-vs-aftermarket question for Viking specifically: Viking’s original weldments were solid for their era, but a good local fabricator in Dallas can often cut and weld a replacement bracket from American-made steel that outlasts the original, especially after 10-plus years of Texas weather. We’re an independent Portcullis Gate Repair location, not affiliated with Viking, and when we fabricate a part we match or upgrade the material, not just patch it back to failing.
Styles & brands we work with

Signs Your Viking Welding & Fabrication Is Failing
- The gate sags at the hinge side. This usually means the hinge weld or the hinge ear itself is stretching or cracking. The gate gets heavier on the latch end, and the operator starts working harder to move it.
- You can see a crack at a welded joint, especially around the hinge plates or where the operator arm attaches. Even a hairline crack is a structural failure in progress. In Dallas, the temperature swings push that crack wider every afternoon.
- The operator mount or base plate moves when the gate cycles. If the fabricated bracket that holds the motor shifts even slightly under load, the welds holding it are compromised. You’ll hear a clunk or a groan at the start of each cycle.
- The gate binds halfway through its travel. A cracked frame member flexes under its own weight, which changes the geometry the operator expects. The motor keeps pushing, which makes the crack worse.
- Rust staining at a weld joint. Water gets into micro-cracks, sits there, and rust bleeds out. By the time you see the stain, the crack underneath is usually already through the weld throat.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
In Dallas, most Viking welding and fabrication repairs land between $180 and $475 installed. A simple cracked hinge weld on a lightweight residential gate runs on the lower end, around $180 – $250. Replacing a fabricated operator mount or reinforcing a cracked frame member lands in the $300 – $475 range depending on steel cost, access, and how much disassembly is needed to weld safely. Every quote includes the $95 – $125 service call applied to the work, the steel, wire, shielding gas, grinding, and primer pass.
You get the price in writing before we touch anything, and the Kingswell Guarantee covers the repair for a full 365 days. If our weld fails inside that window, we come back and fix it at no charge under the 365-Day Done Right Promise. That’s the Kingswell Way: say the price first, then do the work, then stand behind it.
DIY or Call Us?
There’s a safe middle ground here. You can photograph the crack, measure the steel tubing, and note where the part is located, which helps us quote the job more accurately over the phone. What you shouldn’t do is grind out and re-weld a structural gate member yourself, especially on a powered gate. A welded frame under spring or operator tension can shift when the weld is cut, and the stored energy in a swing or slide gate isn’t obvious until the wrong joint is ground out. The operators we service from Viking, LiftMaster, Mighty Mule, and Ghost Controls all have torque limits, but no control board stops a 400-pound gate from swinging once a hinge weld lets go.
If the gate is sagging, cracked, or the mount is moving, call us at (325) 225-5440. We’ll schedule a window, show up in uniform, and give you a written price before the first arc is struck.
FAQs
Most original Viking welded frames and brackets last 12 – 18 years in the Dallas climate before a weld fails. The freeze-thaw cycles in January and February do more damage than the summer heat, though the UV exposure degrades paint and lets moisture reach the steel. A properly re-welded and primed joint should outlast the rest of the gate.
Usually we can grind out the failed weld and re-weld in place, as long as the surrounding steel hasn’t thinned from rust. If the tube wall is under about 50% of its original thickness, replacement is safer and often cheaper than chasing rust with a welder. Call (325) 225-5440 and describe what you’re seeing; we’ll tell you honestly which path fits.
Most single-joint weld repairs take 1.5 – 2.5 hours on site, including grinding, welding, and a primer coat. If we’re fabricating a replacement bracket in our Dallas shop first, expect a 1 – 2 business day turnaround before the install visit. You’ll know the timeline before we schedule.
We keep common stock: 2×2 steel tubing in 11 and 14 gauge, flat bar for hinge plates, and angle iron for operator mounts. Anything Viking-specific that we don’t have on the truck, we cut and fabricate in-house. We don’t make you wait on a backordered OEM part that might not match the steel originally installed.
If your Viking gate has a cracked weld, a sagging frame, or a mount that’s starting to move, call us at (325) 225-5440. We’ll ask what it’s doing and what it stopped doing, which is usually ninety percent of the diagnosis right there. Estimates are free, and the price you approve is the price you pay.
