When a Ghost Controls gate bracket, hinge mount, or arm tab cracks or tears, most Dallas homeowners need the part welded or a new piece fabricated and installed the same week. We carry Ghost Controls-compatible weldments and fabricate replacement brackets in our shop, with most welding and fabrication callouts in Dallas running $180 to $450 installed depending on the part and how much disassembly the gate requires. You’ll usually discover the problem the way most of our customers do: the gate starts sagging, the operator arm pops off its tab, or you hear a metal-on-metal groan every time the gate cycles.
The short version is this: welded steel parts on gate systems fail slowly, then suddenly. A hairline crack at a hinge saddle turns into a clean break on a windy afternoon, and now your gate is hanging by one hinge and dragging on the drive. We answer the phone around the clock at (325) 225-5440, and we’ll tell you over the phone whether it sounds like a re-weld or a replacement piece before we ever roll a truck.
Which Ghost Controls Models This Applies To
Ghost Controls sells kits under a few main lineages: the original AXDP and AXD series (single and dual actuator arms), the TSS1 and TDS2 series (torque-sensing operators), and the newer Rally and Ghost Pro lines. The welding and fabrication side of things almost always involves the same few components across these models: the gate bracket that bolts to the gate frame, the post pivot bracket that anchors the arm to the post or column, and the arm clevis or tab where the actuator connects.
Here’s the compatibility gotcha we see regularly in Dallas: Ghost Controls has changed the hole spacing on their gate brackets between production runs. The AXDP-era brackets typically use 4-inch on-center mounting holes, while some TSS2 and Rally brackets moved to a 3.5-inch spacing. If you order a bracket online without measuring the old one, you’ve got a coin flip of drilling new holes into your gate frame. That’s not a problem when the frame is fresh steel, but on an older ornamental gate in Lake Highlands or Preston Hollow, drilling new holes in the wrong spot means more weld repair later. We measure before we cut.
On the OEM versus aftermarket question for Ghost Controls specifically: the OEM brackets are powder-coated mild steel, and they’re fine for most installations. But we’ve fabricated replacement brackets from a heavier 3/16-inch plate for gates that sit fully exposed in North Texas sun and wind, especially heavy ornamental gates in the Park Cities that put real torque on a hinge. A fabricated bracket with a proper gusset often outlasts the original by years. We stock a range of Ghost Controls-compatible brackets and tabs on the truck, and we can cut and weld custom pieces for odd gate profiles the same day.

Signs Your Ghost Controls Welding & Fabrication Is Failing
- Visible crack at a hinge or bracket weld. Hairline cracks at the hinge saddle or gate bracket mounting points mean the steel is fatiguing. In Dallas, temperature swings between summer heat and winter cold cycles expand and contract the metal, and a crack that’s cosmetic today is a structural break in a few months.
- Gate sags or drags on the driveway. A sagging gate usually means a hinge weld is pulling away or a hinge barrel has wallowed out. The gate gets heavier on the operator, the motor works harder, and the arm tabs take stress they weren’t designed for.
- Operator arm pops off the gate bracket. If the clevis pin shears or the tab cracks, the arm comes loose mid-cycle. The gate usually freezes halfway open or bangs against the stop. We’ve seen this happen on Ghost Controls units where the bolt was under-torqued at install and vibrated loose for a year before the tab failed.
- Metal-on-metal grinding or creaking while the gate cycles. Creaking means two steel surfaces are rubbing without a bushing or with a worn one. On Ghost Controls setups, it’s often the post pivot bracket bushing that’s worn out, and the steel arm is now grinding against the steel bracket. That wears the arm tip down fast.
- Weld spatter or rust bloom around original factory welds. Ghost Controls factory welds are generally clean, but when the powder coat is breached, North Texas humidity and rain get into the steel. Rust blooms around a weld tell you water has been getting under the coating, and the weld is slowly corroding from the inside.

In Dallas, a Ghost Controls gate bracket or hinge reinforcement weld repair typically runs $180 to $450 parts and labor. A custom fabricated bracket or hinge plate, cut and welded in our shop and then installed, typically lands between $300 and $650 depending on the size of the gate, the thickness of the steel required, and whether we need to remove the gate leaf or can weld it in place. We quote the job in writing before any work starts, and the price you see is the price you pay. If the repair fails inside the 365-day guarantee period, we come back and fix it at no charge under the Kingswell Guarantee. Every repair invoice has the guarantee printed on it, including a free return visit if the fix doesn’t hold.
DIY or Call Us?
Here’s our honest split. You can safely check whether a bracket is cracked, whether bolts have backed out, and whether the gate is sagging enough to drag, and you can tell us over the phone what you’re seeing. What you should not do is put a welder on a gate that’s under tension or try to re-hang a sagging leaf without bracing it first. Gates that hang unevenly carry stored energy in their own weight, and when a cut or unbolt goes wrong, steel moves fast. A gate leaf in motion is not a forgiving thing. If the part can’t be reached safely with the gate braced and the operator disengaged, call us. We’ll bring the welder, the steel, and the training, and we’ll leave the place cleaner than we found it. FAQs
In North Texas conditions, factory Ghost Controls brackets and hinge tabs typically last 5 to 10 years before rust or fatigue begins to show, with failure coming sooner on gates that are adjusted poorly or exposed constantly to weather. We see more hinge weld failures in Dallas than in areas with milder winters, because the seasonal expansion and contraction cycles here are hard on steel. A custom fabricated bracket with proper gusseting and a quality powder coat can extend that lifespan substantially. Call (325) 225-5440 and we’ll tell you what we think your specific setup will tolerate.
Yes, a crack in a Ghost Controls bracket can usually be re-welded if the steel around the crack is still sound and the crack hasn’t propagated through more than about a third of the part’s cross-section. The weld grind-back, bevel, and reinforcement take longer than people expect. If the bracket is rust-thinned or the crack runs through a bolt hole, we’ll recommend fabricating a new piece instead of chasing the crack. The decision comes down to what we see when the gate is braced and cleaned.
Most in-place bracket re-welds and tab repairs take 1 to 2 hours on site after the gate is braced and the area prepped. A custom fabricated bracket with removal, shop welding, and reinstallation typically takes half a day to a full day depending on whether the gate leaf has to come off and whether the operator needs recalibration afterward. We’ll give you a written arrival window and a written price before the day starts.
We stock a range of Ghost Controls-compatible brackets, clevises, and pivot tabs on the truck, along with 3/16-inch plate stock for shop fabrication. If your gate needs a custom piece, we can usually cut and weld it the same day we measure. We also keep parts for LiftMaster, Mighty Mule, and DoorKing systems on hand, so if the Ghost Controls part is backordered or discontinued, we can often adapt a compatible heavy-duty equivalent. Call (325) 225-5440 for a free estimate, and we’ll confirm what we have before we head your way.
