Get your free estimateElite Access Control Installation: The Dallas Owner’s Guide
Elite access control installation in Dallas typically runs $850 – $2,400 installed, depending on whether you need a keypad, card reader, telephone entry system, or a full networked setup. We stock Elite-compatible components on our trucks and can usually have your system running within 48 hours of your call. Most owners discover their access control has failed the hard way: a keypad that stops responding after a storm, a card reader that refuses cards it accepted last week, or a telephone entry system that rings endlessly without ever opening the gate. The good news is that Elite systems are built to be serviced, not scrapped, and a failed component usually doesn’t mean a failed system.
Which Elite Models This Applies To
Elite access control components span several series lines, and the compatibility gotcha is real: an Elite keypad from the SL series won’t always talk to an Elite operator from the older CSW line without a relay module between them. Here’s what that means in plain English: the keypad is the thing you type numbers into, and the operator is the motor assembly that actually moves the gate. They have to speak the same language, and Elite has changed that language a few times over the years.
If you’re not sure which series you have, check the label on the inside of your operator housing. You’ll see a model number starting with SL, CSW, or EL. Write that down before you call us. It saves a trip and keeps the price honest. For most Dallas homes we recommend OEM Elite parts when the system is under five years old, and quality aftermarket equivalents when the operator is older and you’d rather not sink premium money into a system that may need replacement in a few years anyway. We’ll give you both options and a straight recommendation based on what we see.

Signs Your Elite Access Control Installation Is Failing
- Keypad accepts the code but the gate doesn’t move. This usually means the keypad itself is fine and the problem is in the relay or the operator’s control board. The keypad is talking; the board isn’t listening. We test both before recommending a replacement.
- Card reader beeps but won’t recognize cards. In Dallas, we see this most often after heavy rain or a freeze-thaw cycle. Moisture works its way into the reader housing and corrodes the contacts. Sometimes the reader can be cleaned and resealed; sometimes it needs to be swapped.
- Telephone entry system rings but won’t open the gate. This points to a dead relay inside the phone module. The relay is the electronic switch that closes the circuit to tell the operator to open. When it goes, the call still comes through, but the gate never gets the message.
- The system works sometimes but not others. Intermittent failure on an Elite access control installation in Dallas heat usually means a component is overheating. By late afternoon, after hours of North Texas sun, the circuit board expands and a connection breaks. When it cools down at night, it works again. That’s not fine; it’s failing slowly.
- You hear a click but nothing happens. The click is the relay firing. The problem is downstream, usually at the operator’s limit switch or the motor itself. This is the one to call about sooner rather than later, because a relay firing into a dead motor can burn out the control board too.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
For a Dallas Elite access control installation, most single-component replacements land between $850 and $1,600 parts and labor. A full keypad-and-relay swap on an SL-series Elite operator typically runs $900 – $1,300. A telephone entry system replacement runs $1,200 – $2,400 installed. Card reader replacements sit in the $850 – $1,400 range.
Every quote we give is a written price before any work starts. That price includes the part, the labor to install and test it, and the written Kingswell Guarantee on the repair. You’ll know the total before a single screw comes out. If the part fails within 365 days, we come back and fix it at no charge. That’s the 365-Day Done Right Promise, and it’s stamped on every invoice we write in Dallas.
DIY or Call Us?
There are a couple of things you can check safely. Make sure the keypad or reader has power. Check that no wires are obviously chewed or disconnected at the operator. Sometimes a Dallas storm knocks a wire loose, and that’s a visual check you can do standing in your driveway.
Beyond that, access control installation work gets into low-voltage wiring and control board terminals. You’re working with a live circuit, and the wrong connection can fry the operator’s main board, which is a far bigger bill than the part you were trying to fix. If you’re comfortable with a multimeter and you know which wire is which, you might handle a simple keypad swap. If any of that sounds like a foreign language, call us at (325) 225-5440 and we’ll send someone who does this every week.
FAQs
In Dallas, an Elite keypad or card reader typically lasts 8 – 15 years, with the shorter end of that range applying to systems facing direct afternoon sun. Components on the west side of a gate post, baking in July heat every day, fail faster than shaded ones. Telephone entry systems last 10 – 20 years if they’re in a weather-protected box. If yours is aging out, call (325) 225-5440 for a written quote on a replacement.
Sometimes. Relays can be replaced, corroded contacts cleaned, and loose terminals tightened. What can’t be repaired is a burned circuit board or a reader that’s been waterlogged. We’ll open it up, show you what we found, and give you the repair price and the replacement price side by side. Call (325) 225-5440 and we’ll set a time.
Most Elite access control installations take 1 – 2 hours on site. A simple keypad swap is usually under an hour. A telephone entry system with new wiring can take half a day. We’ll give you a real arrival window and the price in writing before we start.
We keep the most common Elite keypads, card readers, and relays on the trucks we send out in Dallas. Less common parts, like a specific telephone entry module, may take a day or two to source. When you call, have your Elite model number ready and we’ll tell you what’s on hand before we even schedule the visit. Call (325) 225-5440.
