Get your free estimateLinear Access Control Installation: The Dallas Owner’s Guide
Linear access control installation in Dallas typically runs $425 – $890 parts and labor, depending on the model, whether we’re replacing a keypad, a card reader, a receiver, or the full entry package, and how much wiring needs to be redone. We stock Linear-compatible parts on the truck and can usually get a failed keypad or receiver swapped the same day. Most Dallas homeowners discover the failure the hard way: the keypad stops accepting the code, the remote quits opening the gate from the street, or the system works fine for the gate but won’t recognize a new fob.
Which Linear Models This Applies To
This covers the Linear access control lines we see most across Dallas driveways and commercial entries: the AE series keypads and telephone entry units, the AP series exterior keypads, the M3 and Delta receivers, and the multi-button transmitters that pair with them. The tricky part with Linear is that older receivers run on 24V while some newer boards want 12V, and pairing the wrong voltage will cook a board within a week. The model number is almost always printed on a label inside the keypad housing or on the receiver’s circuit board; if the label’s faded past reading, we match it by connector style and frequency. Linear’s OEM parts are solid, but we also stock quality aftermarket equivalents for the older AP-5 and AE-1000 keypads that Linear has discontinued, because a lot of Dallas gates from the early 2000s run on those and the originals just aren’t available new anymore.

Signs Your Linear Access Control Installation Is Failing
- The keypad beeps but won’t release the gate. This usually means the relay inside the keypad has burned out, not that you’ve forgotten the code. The relay is the switch that tells the operator to open, and it’s one of the most common Linear failures we replace.
- The remote works from twenty feet but not from the street. That’s a receiver sensitivity issue or interference from newer LED lighting, which is everywhere in Dallas now. Sometimes it’s as simple as relocating the receiver antenna, sometimes the receiver is failing.
- New fobs won’t learn to the system. Linear receivers have a limited memory for transmitter codes. Once that fills up, the receiver stops accepting new devices and you either clear it or replace it.
- The entry keypad lights up but the display is garbled. Heat does this. Dallas summers cook LCD screens on exterior keypads, and once the display starts showing nonsense, the keypad is on its way out.
- Intermittent operation that comes and goes. Loose wiring, failing solder joints, or water intrusion after the storms we get in spring. A system that works sometimes but not others almost never fixes itself, and the intermittent stage is the cheapest time to address it.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
In Dallas, a straightforward Linear keypad or receiver swap runs $425 – $650 with parts and labor. Replacing a telephone entry system or a full access control package with a new keypad, receiver, and remotes lands closer to $650 – $890. The range comes down to which model you have, whether we’re pulling new wire or reusing existing runs, and the condition of the operator itself. What you get on every job: the specific part matched to your Linear model, the installation, programming of all existing remotes and codes, and a written Kingswell Guarantee on the work. The price is quoted and agreed before anything gets unbolted, and that block covers the full 365 days with a free return visit if anything fails inside that window.
DIY or Call Us?
There’s a safe middle ground here. You can check your existing codes, verify the keypad has power, and swap remote batteries without touching a wire. But the moment you’re opening a keypad housing or pulling a receiver off its mount, you’re dealing with live low-voltage wiring and a circuit board that’s easy to short. We’ve been called out more than once to fix a replacement attempt where a homeowner mis-wired the relay and burned out a perfectly good operator control board, turning a $500 repair into a $1,200 one. Electrical work on your gate system is the place to draw the line. Call (325) 225-5440, tell us what the system is doing and what it stopped doing, and we’ll give you the price before you owe us a dime.
FAQs
Most Linear keypads and receivers last 7 – 12 years in North Texas before heat, rain, or voltage issues get to them. Units in full afternoon sun on the west side of a Dallas property tend to fail on the shorter end of that range, and ones mounted in shaded or covered locations can go longer.
Sometimes, and we’ll always check that first. If it’s a wiring issue, a bad solder joint, or a corroded contact, we can often repair it for under $150 in labor. When the circuit board itself is shot, the part usually costs less to replace than the board does to rebuild, and we’ll show you the numbers before you decide.
A simple keypad or receiver swap takes 60 – 90 minutes on site, including programming all your remotes and testing the full loop. Full access control packages with new wire runs can take two to three hours. We’ll tell you the expected time before we start.
Yes. We carry Linear-compatible keypads, receivers, and transmitters on the truck along with parts for LiftMaster, Mighty Mule, and Ghost Controls systems. That’s why most failures can be fixed in one visit. Call (325) 225-5440 and we’ll confirm we have your part before we head your way.
