We stock and install Mighty Mule-compatible weldments and fabricated steel parts across Dallas, with most bracket repairs, gate-frame reinforcements, and hinge-plate fabrications running $180 to $475 installed, and we can usually get a tech to your property the same day. The typical call starts the same way: a Mighty Mule opener that was working fine until the gate got heavy, the arm started binding, or the post bracket tore loose after a few seasons of North Texas wind. That’s when the opener gets blamed, but the real failure is usually the steel around it – the fabricated part that connects the motor to the gate.
Here’s the part most Dallas owners don’t see coming: Mighty Mule openers are engineered as a system, and the welded steel components that hold them are just as important as the control board. When a bracket flexes, a hinge pin wallows out, or a weld cracks at the base of a mounting post, the opener has to work harder every single cycle. That extra load shortens the motor’s life and makes the gate run rough. We fix the steel first, then we check the opener it was attached to.
Which Mighty Mule Models This Applies To
This applies to the full Mighty Mule swing-gate lineup we see across Dallas: the MM360, MM371W, MM372W, MM571W, MM572W, and the older FM350 and FM500 series. The welded and fabricated parts we match for these units fall into four categories: post-mount brackets, gate-mount brackets, hinge assemblies, and custom reinforcement plates for gates that have sagged or twisted over time.
The compatibility gotcha with Mighty Mule is the post bracket geometry. The MM360 and MM371W use a narrower bolt pattern than the MM571W and MM572W, and the mounting holes are drilled for specific tube sizes. If a bracket is off by even a quarter inch, the actuator arm binds and the gate jerks instead of swinging smooth. We measure the post diameter, the bolt spacing, and the arm pivot height before we cut anything. Mighty Mule also sells OEM brackets direct, but in our experience the factory brackets are thin-gauge for the job they do in Dallas clay soil and wind. A fabricated 3/16-inch or 1/4-inch steel plate with welded gussets outlasts the OEM part by years and costs about the same installed.
Portcullis Gate Repair Dallas is an independent service provider and not affiliated with Mighty Mule. We stock parts for Mighty Mule, LiftMaster, Ghost Controls, and DoorKing systems.

Signs Your Mighty Mule Welding & Fabrication Is Failing
- Gate sags toward the latch side even when the opener’s off. This usually means the hinge welds or hinge plates have fatigued, not that the opener is weak. The steel is carrying the gate’s weight, and once it flexes, the opener drags the rest of the way.
- The actuator arm clunks or pops at the connection points. Wallowed-out bolt holes in the mounting bracket let the arm shift under load. The pop you hear is the bolt slamming against the inside of the oversized hole.
- Welds show rust streaks or hairline cracks at the post base. North Texas humidity and freeze-thaw cycles work on welds year after year. A hairline crack today is a snapped bracket in a few months.
- The gate scrapes the ground on the swing arc. That’s the fabricated hinge structure bending, not the gate getting longer. Every scrape adds more load to the opener motor.
- The post the opener mounts to leans or moves when the gate cycles. The concrete may be fine; the fabricated anchor plate bolted to it is likely flexing. This is the most common failure we see on Dallas properties with clay soil that shifts seasonally.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
Here’s where the money goes in Dallas. A single fabricated post-mount bracket, cut and welded on site, typically runs $180 to $275 installed. A full hinge-plate replacement with new weldments on both the post and gate side runs $300 to $425. A complete gate-frame reinforcement – where we cut out the rotted or twisted section, weld in new steel, and re-hang the gate – runs $400 to $475 on most residential gates.
- Post-mount bracket fabrication: $180 – $275 installed
- Hinge plate and hinge weldment replacement: $300 – $425 installed
- Gate-frame section repair and reinforcement: $400 – $475 installed
- On-site welding labor (TIG or MIG, steel): $95 – $140 per hour, billed in 30-minute increments after the first hour
Every quote includes the steel, the welding, the hardware, and the labor to remove the old part and install the new one. You get the price in writing before we touch a single bolt. The work is covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if a weld or fabricated part fails within a year, we come back and fix it at no charge. That’s the Kingswell Guarantee, written on every invoice.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely check a few things yourself before you pick up the phone. Look at the bolts where the actuator arm meets the bracket – if the holes are ovaled out or the bolt is loose, that’s the bracket wearing, not the opener. Look at the welds themselves for rust streaks or cracks. And watch the gate swing with the opener disengaged so you can feel if it’s heavy or binding on its own. Tell me what it’s doing and what it stopped doing – that’s usually ninety percent of the diagnosis right there.
What you shouldn’t do is fire up a welder on a gate that’s still connected to a live Mighty Mule opener. The arm is under tension in certain positions, and a gate that lets go while you’re working on it can swing hard enough to break a leg. Welding on a gate with the opener attached can also send current back through the control board and fry it. We disconnect, brace, weld, re-hang, and test – in that order. If you’re on the fence about whether it’s a steel problem or an opener problem, call us at (325) 225-5440 and describe what’s happening. We’ll tell you straight which one it is.
FAQs
A properly fabricated and painted bracket or hinge plate on a Mighty Mule gate in Dallas typically lasts 8 to 12 years before the welds show meaningful fatigue, though the OEM brackets often fail in 4 to 6 years. Our fabricated parts use thicker steel and full-penetration welds, which is why they outlast the factory hardware. Call (325) 225-5440 if you’re replacing one now and want it done once.
Sometimes, yes – a single hairline crack in a bracket can be ground out, re-welded, and gusseted for about half the cost of a new fabrication. If the steel is rusted through or the bolt holes are wallowed out, replacement is the honest call. We’ll show you the part and explain which route makes sense before any work starts.
Most bracket fabrications and hinge replacements on Mighty Mule gates take 2 to 4 hours on site, including cutting, welding, paint, re-hanging, and testing the opener. A full gate-frame reinforcement can run 4 to 6 hours. We give you a real arrival window when you book, and the work is done in one visit.
We carry common steel stock – flat bar, angle iron, tube, and plate in several thicknesses – plus bolts, bushings, and hinge pins sized for Mighty Mule brackets, so most fabrications happen on site the same day. For unusual post sizes or gate configurations, we may need one follow-up visit, and we’ll tell you that before you book. Call (325) 225-5440 and we’ll confirm what your setup needs.
